DISGRACED SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI SET TO HEAD HOME IN SHAME

The false alarmist CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has been ordered by the Presidency to proceed on compulsory retirement on or before March 2014 as his tenure as CBN governor will not be renewed....
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's order to proceed to a forced to leave will come months before his term expires in 2014.
Mallam Sanusi Lamido wrote a fallacious letter to the President, complain about missing $49billion, from funds NNPC suppose to remit to the Federation accounts.
Regrettable after a two-day of reconciliation with NNPC, FIRS, DPR and CBN, Mallam Sanusi aplogised to Nigerians that he got his figures wrong and blamed his staffs for providing him with wrong data.

He concluded that $12billion was the new difference, while the team saw a difference of N10billion. After about 3 more days of reconciliation, the CBN announced that the N10billion was actually remitted to CBN months before Sansui's false alarm, under a separate heading by FIRS and DPR (Department of Petroleum Resources).

Sanusi's tenure was marred with controversies, especially his inability to reconcile the accounts of CBN or making accounts of CBN available to Nigerians or lawmakers. He was using the bank's funds for personal donations to unapproved causes.

CBN sources revealed that Mallam Sanusi Lamido refused to forgive President Jonathan after the President stopped his printing of new N5,000 Naira note, which the CBN governor have already finalized discussions with overseas contractors.

According to them, the best way to get at President Jonathan for stopping his pet-project, the New N5,000 Note, was to soil his administration integrity with such frivolous corruption allegation, but he was shocked on how experts from Federal Inland revenue, DPR and NNPC busted his lies. This forced Sanusi to make an open apology to the respective departments and Nigerians on television.

Open Letter: RIBADU BACKS OBJ

Open letters everywhere, here is another letter from the former EFCC boss.

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, declared yesterday that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo's recent open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan was a good development for Nigeria.

Obasanjo, he said, deserved commendation for saying what other Nigerians lacked the courage to say to the authorities.
Ribadu, who spoke in Abuja, was confident that the letter would bring something positive to Nigeria in the long run.
He said the ruling PDP was fighting a lost battle against Nigerians.

"What is going on today is a war between Nigerians and PDP. People are living PDP because they want to be on the side of Nigerians, going by the level of anti people policies of the party and its impunity amongst others," the APC chieftain said.

"Nigerians now understand that PDP is fighting them while APC symbolises the platform for change where every Nigerian of goodwould will actualise their dreams of a united and prosperous nation"
Ribadu reiterated APC's commitment to transforming Nigeria and urged those yet to decide to join the train of APC to do so and be part of history.
"APC will never allow universities to go on strike for months. We will fight corruption for sure and tackle insecurity and the ravaging poverty in Nigeria," Ribadu said.

Manchester City Whoop Arsenal Ass 6-3

Line-ups:
Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Pantilimon; Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy; Fernandinho, Touré; Silva (Milner, 71), Aguero (Navas, 49), Nasri Garcia, 90); Negredo.
Arsenal (4-4-1-1): Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny (Vermaelen, 42), Monreal; Ramsey, Flamini (Gnabry, 72), Wishere, Walcott; Özil; Giroud (Bendtner, 76).
Referee: Martin Atkinson.
Man of the match: Fernandinho (Manchester City)
Match rating: 9/10

Sergio Aguero’s sublime volley put them behind after Monreal’s failure to track Martin Dimichelis’s 20-yard cross-field ball proved crucial, as the Argentinian flicked on Nasri’s corner into Aguero’s line of fire. There were brief incursions into home territory from Mathieu Flamini but passes were misplaced, players outpowered and there was no attacking width. Sagna is capable of delivering a beautiful cross, but the first one of any danger, headed narrowly wide by Olivier Giroud, came an hour into the match.
The Mesut Özil threat flickered intermittently, but there was no getting the ball through to him. Arsenal had barely threatened before Ramsey pounced on a rare Touré moment of indecision and did manage to feed Ozil, who levelled for Theo Walcott to place a shot deflected in by Dimchelis’s attempted diving header on the half-hour.

Arsenal showed some resilience,  and substitute Nicklas Bendtner’s goal was wrongly ruled offside just before Sagna crossed for Mertesacker to head in Arsenal’s third. But Milner, skipping around Wojciech Szczesny, drew the penalty which Touré converted for City’s sixth.
Vincent Kompany, poised and aggressive, was massively influential throughout. His languid feint past Ramsey in the first half was just one of his vignettes. He is another player lifted to new levels by Pellegrini.
Jack Wilshere’s finger gesture threatened to dominate the post-match narrative, though in the scheme of things it is an insignificance. The story is City’s. They have amassed 16 goals in thumping Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. It is not even the season’s halfway mark, but we can say with impunity that they will take some stopping.

Boy Kills Classmate Over Damaged Earphone

The police in Kogi have arrested a 13-year-old boy, Yinusa Halilu, for allegedly killing his friend and classmate, Mustapha Kazeem, 12, over a damaged earpiece.

ACP Austin Evakhabokun, the Acting Commissioner of Police in Kogi, made this known to journalists on Monday in Lokoja.

Evakhabokun said that a scuffle ensued between the suspect and the deceased, both primary school pupils, when the suspect demanded the return of the earpiece he lent to the deceased.

He said that the late Kazeem said that the earpiece was damaged and Halilu demanded monetary compensation for the damaged earphone.

He said that the demand enraged the deceased who reportedly called the suspect a thief, adding that this resulted in an exchange of hot words, as Halilu insisted on collecting the money by force.

Evakhabokun said that Kazeem became furious and rushed into the house, brought out a sharp cutlass and inflicted cuts on the suspect’s head.

He said that the suspect reportedly rushed to a nearby restaurant with his machete cuts and picked a sharp knife, with which he stabbed the deceased in the chest, leading to his death.

In an interview with newsmen, the suspect said that he borrowed the telephone earpiece from someone, saying that he insisted on replacing it since he did not know what to tell the owner.

He said that Kazeem was his friend and that they were both in Primary Five.

Halilu said that the deceased hit him on his head with a machete, adding that in retaliation, he stabbed him in the chest, which led to his death.

Biography: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

Nelson Mandela's Childhood and Education

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, into a royal family of the Xhosa-speaking Thembu tribe in
the South African village of Mvezo, where his father, Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa (c. 1880-1928),
served as chief. His mother, Nosekeni Fanny, was the
third of Mphakanyiswa's four wives, who together
bore him nine daughters and four sons. After the
death of his father in 1927, 9-year-old Mandela—then
known by his birth name, Rolihlahla—was adopted by
Jongintaba Dalindyebo, a high-ranking Thembu
regent who began grooming his young ward for a role
within the tribal leadership.
The first in his family to receive a formal education,
Mandela completed his primary studies at a local
missionary school. There, a teacher dubbed him
Nelson as part of a common practice of giving
African students English names. He went on to
attend the Clarkebury Boarding Institute and
Healdtown, a Methodist secondary school, where he
excelled in boxing and track as well as academics. In
1939 Mandela entered the elite University of Fort
Hare, the only Western-style higher learning institute
for South African blacks at the time. The following
year, he and several other students, including his
friend and future business partner Oliver Tambo
(1917-1993), were sent home for participating in a
boycott against university policies.
After learning that his guardian had arranged a
marriage for him, Mandela fled to Johannesburg and
worked first as a night watchman and then as a law
clerk while completing his bachelor's degree by
correspondence. He studied law at the University of
Witwatersrand, where he became involved in the
movement against racial discrimination and forged
key relationships with black and white activists. In
1944, Mandela joined the African National Congress
(ANC) and worked with fellow party members,
including Oliver Tambo, to establish its youth league,
the ANCYL. That same year, he met and married his
first wife, Evelyn Ntoko Mase (1922-2004), with
whom he had four children before their divorce in
1957.

Nelson Mandela and the African National
Congress
Nelson Mandela's commitment to politics and the
ANC grew stronger after the 1948 election victory of
the Afrikaner-dominated National Party, which
introduced a formal system of racial classification
and segregation—apartheid—that restricted
nonwhites' basic rights and barred them from
government while maintaining white minority rule.
The following year, the ANC adopted the ANCYL's
plan to achieve full citizenship for all South Africans
through boycotts, strikes, civil disobedience and
other nonviolent methods. Mandela helped lead the
ANC's 1952 Campaign for the Defiance of Unjust
Laws, traveling across the country to organize
protests against discriminatory policies, and
promoted the manifesto known as the Freedom
Charter, ratified by the Congress of the People in
1955. Also in 1952, Mandela and Tambo opened
South Africa's first black law firm, which offered free
or low-cost legal counsel to those affected by
apartheid legislation.
On December 5, 1956, Mandela and 155 other
activists were arrested and went on trial for treason.
All of the defendants were acquitted in 1961, but in
the meantime tensions within the ANC escalated,
with a militant faction splitting off in 1959 to form
the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC). The next year,
police opened fire on peaceful black protesters in the
township of Sharpeville, killing 69 people; as panic,
anger and riots swept the country in the massacre's
aftermath, the apartheid government banned both
the ANC and the PAC. Forced to go underground and
wear disguises to evade detection, Mandela decided
that the time had come for a more radical approach
than passive resistance.

Nelson Mandela and the Armed Resistance
Movement
In 1961, Nelson Mandela co-founded and became the
first leader of Umkhonto we Sizwe ("Spear of the
Nation"), also known as MK, a new armed wing of the
ANC. Several years later, during the trial that would
put him behind bars for nearly three decades, he
described the reasoning for this radical departure
from his party's original tenets: "[I]t would be wrong
and unrealistic for African leaders to continue
preaching peace and nonviolence at a time when the
government met our peaceful demands with force. It
was only when all else had failed, when all channels of
peaceful protest had been barred to us, that the
decision was made to embark on violent forms of
political struggle."
Under Mandela's leadership, MK launched a sabotage
campaign against the government, which had
recently declared South Africa a republic and
withdrawn from the British Commonwealth. In
January 1962, Mandela traveled abroad illegally to
attend a conference of African nationalist leaders in
Ethiopia, visit the exiled Oliver Tambo in London and
undergo guerilla training in Algeria. On August 5,
shortly after his return, he was arrested and
subsequently sentenced to five years in prison for
leaving the country and inciting a 1961 workers'
strike. The following July, police raided an ANC
hideout in Rivonia, a suburb on the outskirts of
Johannesburg, and arrested a racially diverse group
of MK leaders who had gathered to debate the merits
of a guerilla insurgency. Evidence was found
implicating Mandela and other activists, who were
brought to stand trial for sabotage, treason and
violent conspiracy alongside their associates.
Mandela and seven other defendants narrowly
escaped the gallows and were instead sentenced to
life imprisonment during the so-called Rivonia Trial,
which lasted eight months and attracted substantial
international attention. In a stirring opening
statement that sealed his iconic status around the
world, Mandela admitted to some of the charges
against him while defending the ANC's actions and
denouncing the injustices of apartheid. He ended
with the following words: "I have cherished the ideal
of a democratic and free society in which all persons
live together in harmony and with equal
opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for
and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which
I am prepared to die."

Nelson Mandela's Years Behind Bars
Nelson Mandela spent the first 18 of his 27 years in
jail at the brutal Robben Island Prison, a former
leper colony off the coast of Cape Town, where he was
confined to a small cell without a bed or plumbing
and compelled to do hard labor in a lime quarry. As a
black political prisoner, he received scantier rations
and fewer privileges than other inmates. He was only
allowed to see his wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela
(1936-), who he had married in 1958 and was the
mother of his two young daughters, once every six
months. Mandela and his fellow prisoners were
routinely subjected to inhumane punishments for the
slightest of offenses; among other atrocities, there
were reports of guards burying inmates in the ground
up to their necks and urinating on them.
These restrictions and conditions notwithstanding,
while in confinement Mandela earned a bachelor of
law degree from the University of London and served
as a mentor to his fellow prisoners, encouraging them
to seek better treatment through nonviolent
resistance. He also smuggled out political statements
and a draft of his autobiography, "Long Walk to
Freedom," published five years after his release.
Despite his forced retreat from the spotlight,
Mandela remained the symbolic leader of the
antiapartheid movement. In 1980 Oliver Tambo
introduced a "Free Nelson Mandela" campaign that
made the jailed leader a household name and fueled
the growing international outcry against South
Africa's racist regime. As pressure mounted, the
government offered Mandela his freedom in exchange
for various political compromises, including the
renouncement of violence and recognition of the
"independent" Transkei Bantustan, but he
categorically rejected these deals.
In 1982 Mandela was moved to Pollsmoor Prison on
the mainland, and in 1988 he was placed under house
arrest on the grounds of a minimum-security
correctional facility. The following year, newly elected
president F. W. de Klerk (1936-) lifted the ban on the
ANC and called for a nonracist South Africa,
breaking with the conservatives in his party. On
February 11, 1990, he ordered Mandela's release.
Nelson Mandela as President of South Africa
After attaining his freedom, Nelson Mandela led the
ANC in its negotiations with the governing National
Party and various other South African political
organizations for an end to apartheid and the
establishment of a multiracial government. Though
fraught with tension and conducted against a
backdrop of political instability, the talks earned
Mandela and de Klerk the Nobel Peace Prize in
December 1993. On April 26, 1994, more than 22
million South Africans turned out to cast ballots in
the country's first multiracial parliamentary elections
in history. An overwhelming majority chose the ANC
to lead the country, and on May 10 Mandela was
sworn in as the first black president of South Africa,
with de Klerk serving as his first deputy.
As president, Mandela established the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission to investigate human
rights and political violations committed by both
supporters and opponents of apartheid between 1960
and 1994. He also introduced numerous social and
economic programs designed to improve the living
standards of South Africa's black population. In 1996
Mandela presided over the enactment of a new South
African constitution, which established a strong
central government based on majority rule and
prohibited discrimination against minorities,
including whites.
Improving race relations, discouraging blacks from
retaliating against the white minority and building a
new international image of a united South Africa
were central to President Mandela's agenda. To these
ends, he formed a multiracial "Government of
National Unity" and proclaimed the country a
"rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world."
In a gesture seen as a major step toward
reconciliation, he encouraged blacks and whites alike
to rally around the predominantly Afrikaner national
rugby team when South Africa hosted the 1995
Rugby World Cup.
On his 80th birthday in 1998, Mandela wed the
politician and humanitarian Graça Machel (1945-),
widow of the former president of Mozambique. (His
marriage to Winnie had ended in divorce in 1992.)
The following year, he retired from politics at the end
of his first term as president and was succeeded by
his deputy, Thabo Mbeki (1942-) of the ANC.
Nelson Mandela's Later Years and Legacy
After leaving office, Nelson Mandela remained a
devoted champion for peace and social justice in his
own country and around the world. He established a
number of organizations, including the influential
Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Elders, an
independent group of public figures committed to
addressing global problems and easing human
suffering. In 2002, Mandela became a vocal advocate
of AIDS awareness and treatment programs in a
culture where the epidemic had been cloaked in
stigma and ignorance. The disease later claimed the
life of his son Makgatho (1950-2005) and is believed
to affect more people in South Africa than in any
other country.
Treated for prostate cancer in 2001 and weakened by
other health issues, Mandela grew increasingly frail
in his later years and scaled back his schedule of
public appearances. In 2009, the United Nations
declared July 18 "Nelson Mandela International Day"
in recognition of the South African leader's
contributions to democracy, freedom, peace and
human rights around the world. Nelson Mandela died
on December 5, 2013 from a recurring lung infection.

'He is now at Peace': Nelson Mandela Dies at 95.

Nelson Mandela, the revered South African anti-
apartheid icon who spent 27 years in prison, led his
country to democracy and became its first black
president, died Thursday at home. He was 95.
"He is now resting," said South African President
Jacob Zuma. "He is now at peace."
"Our nation has lost its greatest son," he continued.
"Our people have lost a father."
A state funeral will be held, and Zuma called for
mourners to conduct themselves with "the dignity
and respect" that Mandela personified.
"Wherever we are in the country,
wherever we are in the world ... let
us reaffirm his vision of a society in
which none is exploited, oppressed
or dispossessed by another," he
said as tributes began pouring in from across the world. President Obama said his first
political action was an anti- apartheid protest inspired by Mandela, who "achieved more than
could be expected of any man."
"I cannot fully imagine my own life
without the example Nelson Mandela set," he said.
Though he was in power for only five years, Mandela was a figure of enormous moral influence the world over – a symbol of revolution, resistance
and triumph over racial segregation.
He inspired a generation of activists, left celebrities
and world leaders star- struck, won the Nobel Peace Prize and raised millions for humanitarian causes. South Africa is still bedeviled by challenges, from class inequality to political corruption to AIDS. And with Mandela's death, it has lost a beacon of
optimism.
In his jailhouse memoirs, Mandela wrote that even
after spending so many years in a Spartan cell on
Robben Island – with one visitor a year and one letter
every six months – he still had faith in human nature.
"No one is born hating another person because of the
color of his skin, or his background, or his religion,"
he wrote in "Long Walk to Freedom."
"People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to
hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more
naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Make-Ups.

Make-Up
Beauty is gift from God, but a little touch here, a little finishing there, can make you look much more than a simple “Beautiful”, every modern woman love to play with colors everyday to look extra-ordinarily beautiful.
The word cosmetics encircles just about everything from Mascara to Perfume and Lipstick.
By using make up ladies emphasize their quality and hide their blemishes. Young girls as young as thirteen are obsessed on lip gleams, kohl, nail polishes and tinted powders. Despite the fact that now and again, this beautiful obsession could be costly on health and skin. Thus, it is very important to know the dangers and gain of make-up

Pros:
It is no longer a mystery regarding why ladies are angry with cosmetics. It could be connected rapidly and efficiently. Ladies feel happy, confident and strong when they wear cosmetics. some few benefit of wearing cosmetics is that it helps ladies to hide away spots and different defects all over. Likewise helps them highlight facial features which overall might not be as characterized without makeup. There are many items lined-up on racks which suit diverse appearances, compositions of skin, shape and size of the countenances, and hide blemishes. A study indicates that older ladies who used make-up had less falls and an improved carriage than the individuals who never or once in a while used any cosmetics. Facts say that 67% of ladies accepted better medication from others when they wore cosmetics

Cons
Applying makeup everyday can cause serious problem to the skin. Most of the cosmetics available in the market contain dangerous chemicals, colors, additives and preservatives, some of them are even toxic. For instance, lipsticks contain deadly ingredients including lead. Similarly there are equally harmful chemical compounds in blushers, kohl, powders, eye shadows, foundation and more. A layer of makeup on the skin clogs the pores and prevents skin from breathing.

Women rarely check the ingredients of products, nor do they discard them on expiry. Makeup should be worn lightly and occasionally. It is very important to clear off makeup before retiring for the day.

PASSENGER WITH NO FLYING EXPERIENCE LANDS PLANE SAFELY.

A brave aeroplane passenger with no flying experience was forced to take over the controls and make an emergency landing last night after the pilot fell ill & eventually died.
The hero passenger was helped by two instructors who guided him fly the Cessna into Humberside Airport, in north Lincolnshire, from the ground.
Some witnesses described the plane bumping on the runway and sparks coming off the front of it.

Roy Murray, one of the flight instructors who helped the passenger land the plane, told the BBC the passenger had no flying experience and did a 'remarkable job'.

He did a beautiful landing,' 'I wouldn't be frightened to fly with him. I feel satisfied but sad. It could have been a lot worse.'We started in the radar room to guide him to the airport. It took him four or five attempts to land the plane, as we had to use different runways because of the failing light.'
Stuart Sykes saw the aircraft, which took off at Sandtoft Airfield, near Doncaster, West Yorkshire, land on its third attempt shortly before 8pm.
He added: "It's a fantastic feeling knowing I have
probably saved somebody's life."
Witness Stuart Sykes saw the aircraft land.
He said: "It came down with a bump, bump, bump,
hit front end down, I heard crashing and it's come to
a halt.
"There were sparks and three or four crashes, that
must have been the propeller hitting the floor.
"Then it came to a stop."
Fire crew were called and 50 emergency staff were
ready and waiting for the passenger, whose
condition was not known last night.
A pilot called Mike B on Twitter said: "Well done to
passenger who landed plane after pilot falls ill.

18 Die In Another River Niger Tragedy

Barely six days after a boat mishap on River Niger
claimed several lives in Malale village in Borgu Local
Government Area of Niger State, another mishap
has occurred leaving no less than 18 persons dead.
According eyewitness, the accident occurred when a
boat conveying people from Kokoli to Ulakami
capsized at about 4pm. The passengers were
returning from a market in Kokoli, which holds every
Thursday.
The boat was said to be conveying about 80 people
when it split into two, throwing the passengers into
the river.
A survivor, Umar Ibrahim, who spoke to punch newspaper reporter "We were in the middle of the
10 kilometre journey, when the boat split into two
throwing all of us into the water. People started
screaming and falling into the water."
Ibrahim stated that he was able to rescue about 10
women and children adding that the men could take
care of themselves and most of them assisted in the
rescue to reduce the casualty figure.
He added that the intervention of the boat captains
and some passengers who could swim also helped to
reduce the number of victims.
"I thank almighty Allah for using the boat driver and
other good swimmers to come to our rescue fast,
because the bank of the river was far away from us.
The other boat drivers rushed towards us and put
those of us that were rescued on their boats. Some
people were also very tired," he added.
The village head, Mohammed Garba, confirmed that
after the incident, he went round to find out how
many people were missing and they recorded 18.
Though some villagers, said, "The river is angry
because it has not be given its yearly sacrifice,"
some were of the opinion that the boat was too old
and was not maintained.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Disaster and
Emergency Management, Mohammed Saba,
appealed to them to remain calm as people were
blaming the boat operators for the deaths.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management
Agency has attributed the high level of casualty in
the last week's boat mishap in Tunga Na' Illo, Borgu
Local Government Area of the state, to the lack of
the state government's presence in the area.
Speaking at a one-day sensitisation workshop on
liquid and solid waste management, organised by
the agency in Minna, the Agency's North Central
Coordinator, Mr. Ishaya Isah Chinoko, said "About
70 people died when the boat which was carrying
over 100 villagers to the market suddenly developed
an engine problem and capsized mid way in the
river".
The NEMA boss however maintained that the
casualty figure would have been less if there were
relevant state government agencies, like the police
marine and organised local divers stationed there for
rescue purposes in view of the heavy water
transport activities in the area.

Our Amalgamation Is a Mistake – Ankio Briggs

Mrs Ankio Briggs, rights activist and one of the leaders of the National Summit Group, says there is nothing to celebrate at 53 and the amalgamation of Northern and Southern protectorates to create Nigeria was a mistake. Excerpts:

How do you view Nigeria at 53?

I'm yet to see what we are celebrating. If we are celebrating the fact that we have had independence for 53 years and lived together for a 100 years then, 100 is just a figure. When you are celebrating, you have to show what you have achieved. And the question I'm asking is what have we achieved?

Unity? We are not united in this country. Developmentally, what have we achieved? I mean in things like roads and what have you? These are the things that should matter as we are progressing. We shouldn't now be building roads at 100.

We should be improving on what we have built may be at 30, 40, 50, 60, not starting the development of Nigeria after a 100 years of being together.

So, for me, those are the things I use as yardstick to measure Nigeria. Like other countries are sending satelite into the space, Nigeria sent a satelite and lost it.

So, we should ask ourselves if Nigeria is not too big a country to be governed the way in which we are being governed today? Should we not have states being responsible for themselves? This is why national conference is necessary.

We have been like this for 100 years, aside the fact that we have been together and this is what everybody tells us as if it's such a big deal to be together.

Annkio Briggs
America is still together and look at what they have achieved, likewise other countries. Other countries like the Soviet Union, Sudan, have broken up.

For Nigeria, I think by age alone, we are matured enough to ask ourselves some questions and answer them in a truthful manner. We are just deceiving ourselves.

People have said the coming together of different parts of the country is a mistake, do you agree?

I totally agree, but we can't take responsibility for that, I might say, because it's not Nigerians that created Nigeria.

It's Lord Luggard who created Nigeria that brought us together and called us one people. But it's very clear today that that's not so. The North is the North and the South is the South.

These regions are made up of so many people with different cultures, religions, foods and different ways of looking at things.

And when you bring them together to say they should look at things the same way, you are telling them to look at Nigeria in only one way.

But one day, some of this people will wake up and say, look, things are not working for us this way.

The people it works for will resist other people who don't want the process to remain like that. So, this is the problem Nigeria is having and anybody that doesn't see it like that is not telling himself the truth.

Do we have any basis for Nigeria's unity?

We have basis in the sense that it's our choice. It should be our choice and it will be our choice, because that's why we have these discussions going on now. I believe Nigeria can be a great country and that Nigerians can live together.

Look at the circumstances we are in and we are still able to manage it and to drag it along. But we shouldn't be managing. We should have some rules and regulations that we all accept.

We should agree on how and when we are going to do it and once we agree, it will be much easier. The problem we are having is that we didn't agree. And we have not found the basis on which we are agreeing. We must find that basis. It's possible to live together. But the question is how? What are the terms and conditions?

Nobody is saying we shouldn't live together. We are saying how? Who brings what? Who owns what? Who controls what? How much should I bring? How much should you bring? How much

What if we keep everything and pay something to the centre? These are the things we need to look at together. We can live together, but how?

Now, how do you think we can live together in peace and harmony in Nigeria?

Well, it won't be for one person alone. I can only speak for my people. Like for instance, I come from Rivers State, which is in Niger Delta region.

For instance, most of what we are using to develop the country today is coming from my region, from my state.

Now, all I'm saying is that that should not be so. It has made every other state which does not have oil not to bring anything to the table.

So, what I'm saying is that we should have ownership of our resources and pay tax to the Federal Government. That way, everybody will be responsible for themselves.

And then, we from the Niger Delta will not feel that the weight of developing Nigeria is on our back and that we as a people are not gaining anything from it.

What percentage of tax do you think the regions should pay to the centre?

Taxes are usually 5 per cent, 2 per cent, 40 per cent and whatever. It's something we must all agree upon. I mean, it's not something that I will say, it should be like this.

Fashola Apologizes Over Deportation of Ndigbo

BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA, GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE.
After two months of deep reflection, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola this afternoon rendered an unreserved apology to Ndigbo over the July 24 dumping of 72 alleged destitute in Onitsha, Anambra State, by his administration.

Speaking at the silver jubilee symposium of Igbo think tank Aka Ikenga at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, in South-West Nigeria, Fashola declared that he has no problem with Igbos, saying that his action had been misunderstood.

He said it was easier for him to ask Ben Akubueze, the Igbo financial expert serving as Lagos Commissioner for Budget, to represent him at the event but decided to come in person.

Fashola disclosed that the highest number of cattle he got during the burial of his father early last month came from Ndigbo. He made it clear that his relationship with Ndigbo "dates back to our ancestors and is built on tolerance and fidelity and I place value on that relationship."
