His wife, Zainab Olagunju, affirmed the news to Premium Times in a phone meeting.
According to her she said the musician was receiving medication in America as he fell sick in the country. She said that few days after coming back to Nigeria, he complained of inability to walk fittingly. He was in this way taken to a private hospital at Ogunlana Drive in Surulere area of Lagos State.
The late musician's wife said her spouse was admitted in the hospital for a week, before he at last passed away early Wednesday morning.
"Yes it is true, Baba is dead. He died this morning at a private hospital at Ogunlana drive of Surulere in Lagos," Fatai's widow told Premium Times reporter on the telephone.
She said Fatai's bill was being footed by an organisation for whom he acted as a model in a promotion.
The late musician was regularly referred to as ageless on account of his coordinated performance. One of his popular singles, 'won kere si number wa.'
